Scour: The Social Search Engine

I discovered a new search engine a few days ago, and that is Scour.Com. It’s different from Google, Yahoo, or MSN, or any other search engines you know because it promises to pay you back for using it. Actually, it will take time before you can get that $25 visa gift card because you have to earn 6500 points. The points would be 1 point for searching, 2 points for voting, and 3 points for commenting, but you can only earn up to 4 points per search you do, despite searching, voting, and commenting in one search.

Aside from the points you get while searching, you will also earn points from the points of your referrals. So the more referrals you’ve got that use Scour, the easier you can earn that 6500 points.

One more thing about Scour is that they also have the search results of Google, Yahoo, and MSN aside from their own search results. You just have to click each tab to see what they are. I still don’t know though how do they send the prize since they weren’t informative on this matter as of now. They are still in Beta anyways.

As I am writing this post, the Scour leader only has 151 points, and I am on top 4 garnering 65 Scour points. You can still catch up! Try it now here. If you want to share your points with me, you can email me at reahguev[at]gmail[dot]com so I can send you a Scour invitation.

Twing: The Forum Search Engine

May 2nd, 2008 reah Posted in search engine 1 Comment »

For a while, I have been wondering if there is a search engine, or if Google has a feature that I can use to specifically look for topics in different forums. I have a blog about Google, and one of the ideas I have for link building is to answer questions that were posted in different forums. If not answering questions, I can browse different relevant threads and read stories, insights, or any kind of ramblings of Google product users. Well in this way, my future posts for Google Maven will be more inclined to what the users feel, want, or need.

Then just yesterday, while using stumbleupon I found a post sharing two new search engines, and one of them was Twing, the search engine with the feature I was looking for. So I immediately bookmarked it and tried it just today. It’s the way I wanted. I just looked for threads that were relevant to the topic of my blogs, read them or posted some replies. Well, of course I have to become a member on those forums to be able to contribute. Also, to get more relevant and latest search results I sorted my query using the date range which reminded me of Google’s date range feature. I also tried filtering my queries using the top forums, or looked on top companies’ discussion boards. Well if you would like to try this search engine, you can also filter your query by language. Cool eh?

I am not sure if Twing is the only search engine with this feature. But so far, I think I will be using this often.

P.S.

I couldn’t remember the post I’ve read. I forgot to bookmark it to get its link. My bad. But I just found it through Stumbleupon.
